This file gives information on the distribution of WhatIs for user
groups and shareware disk vendors. We value the work you do as disk
vendors and user groups. Your's is a vital role in the shareware
distribution system.
Before putting WhatIs in any shareware or other disk library, or
charging a fee in any way for distributing shareware copies you must
obtain written permission from us to do so. However if you are a non-
profit tax-exempt user group or a shareware disk vendor approved by the
Association of Shareware Professionals (ASP) you may place a shareware
copy of WhatIs in your library without prior written permission,
provided you notify us within 15 days of doing so. If you are a disk
vendor your application must have been fully approved in writing by the
ASP, not merely submitted and awaiting review.
If you want a copy of WhatIs directly from us write and ask. Please say
if you would prefer a 5.25" or a 3.5" disk. We will send it to you for
no charge.
When you request our permission to put WhatIs in your library, or notify
us that you have done so, please send us a copy of your catalog or other
standard materials where you explain the shareware concept. This is
particularly important if you are not an approved ASP vendor or non-
profit user group. We must be satisfied that in your standard written
materials (catalogs / flyers) you clearly explain the shareware concept,
the requirement that users register programmes that they use, and that
your charge is a copying fee only, which does not constitute payment for
the programme. You must also make a clear distinction between shareware
and public domain software.
How you say it doesn't matter. What matters is that we are confident
that users will know what it is that they are and are not purchasing.
Saying that you explain such matters in person is not sufficient.
If possible we would like to be placed on your mailing list.
We apologise for any inconvenience this policy may cause you. We look
forward to working with you in the future. If you intend to place WhatIs
on a BBS please see SYSOP.DOC which is also distributed with WhatIs.
Please contact us if you have any questions or comments on WhatIs or our
policies. Our address is:

A disk copy of WhatIs (once uncompressed) must include all of the
following:
ReadMe.Doc Brief intro & how to install WhatIs.
ReadMe.Com Self Displaying version of ReadMe.Doc.
WhatIs.Doc Complete WhatIs manual.
WhatIs.Exe WhatIs Programme.
WhatIs.Pif Program Info File for running WhatIs under Windows.
WhatIs.Ufr Unidentified File Report Form.
Order.Frm WhatIs order form.
SysOp.Doc Information on WhatIs for BBS SysOps.
Vendor.Doc This file.
The following (which you may also have received) is not required for
WhatIs to work.
Install.Exe Installation programme.
Install will only work with a self extracting LZH archive called
WhtIs101.Exe produced with LHA. Do not distribute Install.Exe unless
you also distribute WhtIs101.Exe.
We distribute Install so that users can easily install WhatIs on a hard
disk. As well as uncompressing the archive file it also offers to
modify AutoExec.Bat to include the WhatIs directory on the users path.
If you do not distribute Install please provide users with simple and
adequate instructions on how to add or modify the path command in their
AutoExec.Bat file.
